| 言語そして／またはイメージ ――
北斎を賞賛するヴァレリー |

本発表
では、言語（言語活動、言語表現）、視覚イメージ（図像／映像）並びに現実（または現実の知覚）の三者の間の「関係」を考察することが課題である。このよ
うな問題の考察を深めるにあたって、フランスの１９−２０世紀の詩人のポール・ヴァレリーの美学におけるイメージの問題を、特に具体例の一つとして取り上
げる。論点は次の三つに集約される。一つ目は言葉とイメージという二つの表現媒体の特質の比較である。二番目には日常言語による拘束から解放された知覚や
思考と、それに基づいた人間精神の表現の可能性の追求である。最後には、言語表現やイメージ表現のそれぞれの現実への従属の強さの度合いの検討と、更に現
実を超越した虚構の世界の創出の評価が問題となる。

日本仏教における倫理と言語 ―― 道元をてがかりとして

本発表において、私は大乗仏
教における倫理の位置付けというテーマに関して、「三層構造からなる世界」という観点から、これまで私が取り組んできた道元をはじめとする日本仏教の研究
によって得た成果をてがかりとして発表する。とりわけ、注目したいのは、宗教には、倫理と調和的な側面と敵対的な側面がある点である。日本仏教においてこ
の二つの側面がどのようにあらわれているのかを、その世界の構造的把握との関わりの中で明らかにしたい。そしてその上で、本シンポジウムのテーマである
「言語と思想」に関連して、そのような三層構造の中で言葉はどのような意義を有し、また、どのように機能するのかという問題をも検討したいと思う。 |

禅の対話に関する研究
|
|
言語と思想というテーマは、禅思想を研究する上で、大変
難しくかつ重要である。禅は不立文字を標語とし、文字・教義に依らずに真実を追求することを目指す。それにもかかわらず、かつての禅僧たちの言行が厖大な
数の語録類として書き残され、現代まで伝えられているのである。
今回の発表では、このような禅における言語の問題について、特に公案（禅問答）の考察を通して一つの見解を述べたい。問答、つまり対話という修行は、き
わめて倫理的な要素を含む。これを通して、禅という宗教の持つ倫理的側面を見ることが出来るだろう。
そして次に、対話の基盤となる信心の問題に触れる。対話の倫理の底には、それをむしろ破壊する信心のはたらきがあるのではないか、ということを今後の課
題として提示する予定である。 |

| 西田哲学と言語 |
|
西田哲学もまた、いわば言語化し得ない次元を記述したとさ
れる。何故このような事が可能なのだろうか。これには西田の言語観、表現観が密接に関連しており、同時にその哲学全体にも深く関係していると思われる。本
発表では特に、西田との関連が指摘される日本語の構造と述語論理をめぐる議論を、言語学を参照しつつ紹介することで、その理解の手掛かりとする。そこで強
調される事になる「具体的現実」が、如何にして超越的に無限な次元と繋がると言えるのかを見るため、「場所論」の検討に及ぶ。単に西田理解に留まらず、言
語化に象徴される難問を見据えつつ、尚且つ実りある対話をし得る可能性を追究していきたいと思う。

| A short insight
on
the cultural history of the concept of activity |
|
My paper is on the
following issue : what is today the “thought” or conceptual content of
the word Activity ? Impossible to answer this question without a short
insight upon the long historical and philosophical trajectory of this
notion. As both flights of a stairs, the concept is developing from one
side through metaphysical and epistemological interrogations, from the
other one from questions upon the feasibility of the industrious making.
The ergological approach may be seen as the combination of the
instructions of both sides.

Language and Thought
in Wittgenstein’s Assessment of the Contemporary Occidental
Civilization
|
|
The problem of the
relation of Language to Thought will be first presented as central for
the so called Picture Theory in Wittgenstein’s Philosophy. This theory
will then be illustrated on the example of the original connection , in
Wittgenstein’s Tractatus , between logical space and the « mystical ».
It will be at last suggested that there exist a strong relation between
this connection and Wittgenstein’s later assessment of a form of
civilization he supposes to be constitutive of the contemporary
occidental ideal of « scientific progress » , and in which he can’t
recognize his own craving for speculative serenity.

| The names of God
|
|
Master Eckhart goes back
to the Neoplatonist question of the names of God : what is the proper
name of the divine principle ? Is there even a proper name of the one
who gave himself this answer to the question : « I am that I am
» or,
according to another translation : « I shall be that I shall be »
? Two
answers will be studied in the latin and german works of the Thuringian
Master : God is being and God is the One.

Inward Discourse and
Moral Philosophy: the Stoic Soliloquy
|
|
For the 17th century man
of letters, talking to oneself may be viewed either as a symptom of
melancholy, as a dramatic device on the stage, or as a religious
technique. The paper claims that at least in early modern philosophy
(especially in the philosophy of the third earl of Shaftesbury,
1671-1713) that practice draws also on the Stoic conception of thought
as self-discourse. Within a perfectionist conception of moral
philosophy, talking to oneself is not pathological, but is the core of
practical rationality.

Logos, Thought and
Consciousness in Plotinus'philosophy
|
|
In Plotinus' theory,
thought is an activity that does not require consciousness'
reduplication for exercising itself. It does not mean that it has not
some kind of self-awareness, but that self-awareness is not, in the
case of pure thought, a matter of becoming two in one. If consciousness
implies some externalizing of thought content, it is not proper to
thought as thought. It is Logos’ task to display pure thought's content.
