次世代のグローバルリーダーを育成するためのコースワークである博士課程リベラルアーツ科目から、Essential Ethics for Global Leadersを開講します。
講師は、本学グローバル人材育成推進センターの石田安実特任准教授です。
この授業は、グローバル理工学副専攻の履修科目になっていますが、博士前期・後期課程に所属する学生はどなたでも履修することができますので、グローバル力の強化を目指している方には受講をお勧めします。なお、講義は英語で行われます。
主題と目標
We do not quite often talk of ethical issues. But this does not mean that the issues have no importance for us. On the contrary, we are surrounded by various issues that have significant ethical or moral impacts on us; those who are engaged in science and technology are no exception. For example, given the environmental situation called “global warming,” should all of us stop our economic developments?; the advancement of modern medical technologies, such as cloning technologies and reproductive technologies, makes us wonder how much we are allowed to apply these technologies to human beings and change our human nature; advanced lifesupporting technologies pose a question of when we should stop medical treatment for patients (it is called “the problem of euthanasia”). All these questions require some sort of serious ethical reflection. In fact, the complexity of modern sciences and the rapid progress in research and technological development pose a lot of ethical questions for us.
This course will take a close look at the ethical significance found in modern cutting-edge technology and the ethical (moral) challenges posed by modern sciences. By discussing these issues, students are expected to learn ethically important concepts and master the ways of thinking that would be useful in discussing modern sciences and technological development from ethical viewpoints.
As a final assessment, students are to make presentations on modern scientific technology and the ethical problems that can be found in the issues. By the end of the course, students will have improved their listening comprehension skills and be able to present their own opinions with regards to scientific and ethical issues in a coherent and organized manner.
